A miniature Dubrovnik without the crowds...
Just a short ferry hop from Dubrovnik, off the western end of the Peljesac peninsula, the fores-covered island of Korcula has one of the best-preserved walled medieval cities in Croatia. But while the historic Croatian town heaves with tourists all year round, Korcula remains blissfully sleepy. The cobbles streets of Korcula's Old Town may look as they did in Marco Polo's day, but one wonders what he would be made of a new, family-run hotel in an 18th-century palace and adjacent medieval buildings. Each of the six bedrooms has been inspired by a Silt Road destination-the two bedroom 'India' has its own private terrace, for example - and guests can take advantage of the two private yachts, bespoke tours and heli-transfers. A spa and restaurant will open at the end of the year.
